Dear Chairman Royce and Ranking Member Engel:

As the House Foreign Affairs Committee holds a hearing today to examine the crime of human trafficking, I wanted to share with you the attached policy statement adopted by the Executive Committee of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD) earlier this year.

As detailed in our statement, those engaged in human trafficking are using our transportation system to move their victims throughout our country and internationally going virtually unnoticed by most.  With proper training and support, front-line transportation workers are in a unique position to help identify human trafficking activities and to report them to employers and law enforcement officials.  Transportation unions are committed to doing their part, in cooperation with employers, to address a crisis that is spreading around the world.

As the Committee considers this issue further, I hope the views and perspective of transportation labor can be used as a resource.  If you have any questions or wish to discuss further, please feel free to contact me personally or Kelly Misselwitz (kellym@ttd.org) on our staff.  Thank you.

Sincerely,

Edward Wytkind
President
