WASHINGTON, DC – Edward Wytkind, president of the Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD), issued the following statement today in reaction to the Obama Administration’s intent to nominate Daniel Elliott as Chairman of the Surface Transportation Board:
“Transportation unions strongly support the President’s decision to nominate Daniel Elliott to serve as the Chair of the Surface Transportation Board (STB). This appointment confirms the administration’s commitment to ensuring the interests of workers and the public are served by our nation’s rail transportation system.
“Mr. Elliott’s considerable legal expertise on rail operations and advocacy on behalf of rail workers make him an ideal candidate to lead the STB. He will provide the agency with a better understanding of the important role frontline workers serve as the STB regulates the industry.
“We look forward to Mr. Elliott’s swift confirmation.”
