TTD Statement on Departure of DOT Deputy Secretary John Porcari

By Admin

WASHINGTON, DC—Statement by Transportation Trades Department, AFL-CIO (TTD) President Edward Wytkind on the departure of DOT Deputy Secretary John Porcari, effective Dec. 31:

“John Porcari has been a steady and effective leader throughout his nearly five years as President Obama’s DOT deputy secretary. He implemented a historic transportation economic recovery package that helped the nation emerge from the Great Recession. John maintained a dogged focus on advancing smart transportation investments that put Americans to work and revive the nation’s transportation manufacturing capacity. His work to raise the bar on transportation safety will also be a part of his legacy.

“While we wish John well, his leadership at DOT will be missed. Deputy Secretary Porcari is a rare mix of talent—he is tenacious and passionate but also possesses the patience and intellect needed to steer such a diverse federal agency with so many important responsibilities.

“It was a privilege to work with John over these many years. His door was always open. He always wanted to know how transportation policies impacted transportation employees and how the DOT could support the men and women that operate, maintain, build and support our multi-modal transportation network.

“I wish John all the best and know that he will continue to advance the transportation interests of our nation.”
